Inside the Studio - Newborn Sessions and More!

October 26, 2017  •  Leave a Comment

I am so excited to have created a dedicated studio space earlier this year! It is super convenient and allows me to keep everything set-up for my sessions. And it provides a comfortable space for my clients.

All of my newborn session are held in my home studio in Aurora, Colorado to ensure conditions are optimal. This includes having a warm room, professional lighting, white noise, posing positioners, and props for baby... as well as a couch and bathroom in the studio for the convenience of parents and siblings during the shoot!

(I also use the studio for indoor headshots, sitter sessions, cake smashes, and kids mini sessions.)

While parents sometimes bring small sentimental items to incorporate into the shoot, I always provide everything needed for a unique session to create images that families will cherish forever. This includes beds, bowls and baskets, newborn wraps and blankets in an assortment of colors and textures, backdrops for baby as well as a large one for family photos, headbands for little girls, rompers in a variety of colors, etc.

I have 3 different locations to photograph newborns in the studio and this allows me to move between set-ups quickly in order to make the most of our time together. I put a lot of thought and preparation into each session to plan for poses, outfits, and set-ups in advance to ensure the easiest transition between them. I always ask parents about their preferences on colors, props and poses but often parents are happy to let me plan everything.

Below is a sampling of my props and accessories as well as what the studio looks like.

I have a variety of beds that I use for poses. The one on the left I made myself out of barnwood. It's classic and simple and definitely one of a kind! I also made this little white bed and night stand set on the right with the help of my husband.

I found a child's toybox and modified and painted it to make this bed on the left.
And I made the bed on the right from branches from a tree we cut down in our yard.

This miniature chair and matching table were handmade in Europe and I've used it for both newborn and sitter sessions. This is one of my favorite sets!

As you can see, I have a variety to accomodate both newborns and sitters.

I have a pretty good collection of rompers for both boys and girls and I'm always picking up new ones.

Newborn headbands and tiebacks are a small addiction of mine.
I have everything from dainty tiebacks to more elaborate headbands.
I also have a variety of colors from neutrals to pinks, purples, blues and greens!

Hats for both boys and girls include slouchy caps, fitted mohair hats, and bonnets.

I have lots of wraps to coordinate with hats, blankets, and headbands in both neutral colors as well as pinks, purples, blues, and greens.

Below are the three areas that I use for photographs. The area pictured on the left contains my posing pod and accessories and serves as a comfortable spot for newborns to be positioned for shots like the ones above. The middle area is a pretty large space where I can photograph entire families with newborns, take newborn prop shots, or set up for mini sessions (my Christmas mini session is pictured below) and cake smash sessions. Finally, the area on the right is used for additional prop shots and can be used for sibling photos.

The photos above demonstrate how I use the large area for family photos.
This backdrop can be rolled up to use additional backgrounds.

I also have many additional backdrops that can accomodate both newborns and children for sibling shots (or mini sessions, cake smashes, etc.)

Finally, I have a sitting area where parents can relax as well as a full bathroom inside the studio. I also have some toys to keep kiddos entertained while they are waiting.

I also have a large storage area for various props and backdrops.

Please leave a comment and let me know what you think about the new studio!!!
